IT Myths......

Myth #1: If you are not in the biggies... u are a loser
Auntyji : "Beta, kaunsa tent?"
Me: "Persistent! Aunty I work in Persistent. "
Aunty: "Tumko Info*** mein nahi mila kya?" (in short: "tum second grade gadha lagte ho")

Then I have to make efforts to tell them how I actually work for a much better company. In case the opposite person is technologically sane then I give him some product development 'funda' (arrogance).

Myth #2: If you haven’t been on site ...u are a loser
Uncle: "Tum do saal se IT company mein kaam kar rahe ho na?"
Me: (tightening my collar..head high) "Haan uncle......bas ....."
Uncle: "Tum videsh nahi gaye?"
Me: "Nahi uncle project mein requirement nahi hai onsite kaa"
Uncle: "Lekin woh bunty ko toh maanna padegaa.... engg mein 2nd class milaa...fir bhi usne jamke mehnat ki aur usse company ne USA bheja!"

Aaaha! thats the problem. People think that only the smarty pants are sent on site while the loser ones are the people left behind in India. So the assumption is that if you haven't been on site then you don't work hard nor you have any sincerity and ... ok that's enough for now.

Myth #3: You can fix any computer..and calculator and may be clocks too
Most of the computer engineers around must have at east once gone to a friend's place only to fix his /her comp. The task can be from installing a software (next..next.. finish) to fixing a computer which gives electric shocks when its metal areas are touched.

Myth #4: You have lots of money
Once I met up with my friends from school ...from various fields. I just mentioned that it is such a pain to go to office nowadays and said that I wanted to buy a car.
Friend1: "what problem do u have man .. u are an IT waala"
Friend2: "Tu toh Honda CRV le saktaa hai"
Me: "CRV!! aabey CRV kyaa mere pass VCR lene ka paisa nahi hai"
Even after 5 minutes of convincing them weren't getting convinced.

Myth #5: Coding means sitting in front of the computer
During my college days , my classmate had an encounter with a guy from mechanical dept:
Mech guy: "Your Computer engineering is a big nautanki.... four years You learn the same grey dabba... and all you ppl do is sit nicely in front Of that dabba and punch the keys"

Well I don’t completely disagree

Myth #6: One more thing which oldies say : “ Now you work in
such a big company , you are settled , you should marry now !! “

Myth #7: In Diwali…u get questions like……”Are you gonna get a
bonus this Diwali…..??” And when we reply in the negative…..they seem
so surprised…!!!!!!!

Myth #8: A common issue that I have seen:
When I tell anybody that I work with Infosys, many times I get a reply
“My son/daughter/relative Mr/Ms XXX also works with Infosys. You must
be knowing him/her” and if I answer in the negative, they feel
disappointed (sometimes even angry with me).

How to explain to them that there are around 1,00,000 employees in my
company forget about knowing everybody in the company. L

Some Thoughts... at end... at start....

Not getting time for blog since month... since I resigned.... :( .. at the time of resignation, I thought my manager would not assign new task and I will get free time to enjoy last days at Pune. get time for gym, get time for movies... but nothing like that happened due to crunch situation in project.... now only 1 days left to Persistent, still I have list to complete few tasks and bugs... aah eArray (my project's name)...

I m moving to Mumbai now, will join JP Morgan on 10th... but don't know why. not feeling much excitement for new phase of my professional career.... comparing this when I had joined Persistent, almost 3 years back... at that time salary was the issue at my first company, so first excitement of getting salary on time.. :) .. then big company's excitement, Persistent has its own premises... coming to office, entering Persistent gave me proud feeling that time... that yes I had achieved something in life.. I have some worth.. definitely boost my confidence at that time.... since then.. lot has changed.... me n persistent both.... :) .... today, if I see and analyze my work at eArray... I m not feeling much proud of it.... did lots of mistakes.. blunders and I learn a lot here... I feel Persistent gives me more than I did for them.... its like I feel proud for being employee of Persistent bt Persistent would not feel proud of me... its like don't ask what your country do for u.. ask what u did for your country.. :) ......

When I resigned, manager ask me why.. I said salary.. she said, In terms salary, I can't do anything. if you have any other issue.. tell me.. I said no... she said ok.. n its all done... last week one of team mate resigned.. manager ask him why.. he said salary.. she said... wait for mid term appraisal... hmmmmmmmmmmm..... this is shows the worth of employee in company....... :( ...

Actually .. I had never given 100% to this project... may be because of domain.. I always thought I would not like to work here for longer in this project and may be that's the reason I was never fully... committed.... but yes.. with new company, I will try to give 100%.. not only 100%.. more than 100% and than lets see.. I am worth or not.......

and the reason I m not feeling much excitement is not because of all this... its because of city.. Mumbai... aah... when I was studying.. I had a dream to do job in Mumbai... and see.. God bless me... my dream is going to be true... but now.. I m in love with Pune's weather... and may be my rented flat.... :) .... I knew I will never get heaven like weather (I m comparing here Pune's weather to Mumbai/Surat/Ahemdabad)... and flat...(one of my friend said.. flat I have here will easily costs me 25k there...) and one more thing.. I can go surat on every weekend from there... I m worrying... what I will do there for 2 days.. every weekend.. here in Pune.. all my friends have leave on sat-sun so no issues but there at surat, all my friends r doing their business.... they don’t have leave even on Sunday.. forget about Saturday.. hmmm.... problem hai....

but ya one thing is sure... after 1-2 years of Mumbai experience, if I move to any other city of India.. I will feel ultimate calmness and peace..... :) .... ones you experienced the worst... U will feel better for even ok things letter... so that’s the major inspiration for me...

so get ready for hard life there.. (kutte jaisi.. . :) ).........

and yes, friends.. get ready for blogs of my Mumbai experience...

Some Thoughts

Budget released this week..... I was at the office that time, first thing I had checked about tax slabs... how much it would effect in my take home... and i was disappointed.....
strange.. next morning, in times, I read these lines.... "Our interest in the Budget revolves mostly around out immediate concerns: will I take home a fatter salary, will my investments yield higher returns, will my business benefit? our budget edition seeks to address such concerns. but there is another India that many of us have only a passing acquaintance with. its an India of several hundred million people who barely make a few rupees a day. They live without a roof over their head and die without medical treatment. They can not write or spell their names.... its time we gave the other India hope of a better life.... not just because it's the right thing to do, but also because if we don't, 'our India' won't grow and prosper in the long run.." .... very true...
really we are very selfish, Hippocrates... first we thought only about our take home, our benefits then when go out side and see poor peoples, bad roads and we scolded government for not doing anything about these..... very bad....
ya but one thing I surely still not understand is tax structure.... when I was in MCA, one of my friends who was studying CS that time, he said that rule is that if tax is implemented on one thing, another type of tax must not implements on that thing... I was student at that time and don't know government will deduct tax direct from my salary, even before it comes to my hand.. :( ..... so I didn't argue anything that time... but now I know a bit.. a bit only... so when we met last time, I asked him that you told me that rule, but I didn't get that yet, Ones I paid tax from income, why should I pay tax on things I buy like VAT.... like entertainment tax at cinema and then he said... you paid tax on your income from your salary, at cinema u r paying entertainment tax, when u buy something u r paying sales tax ... so its not the same, its different.. rule is that you can't pay tax twice on the same thing but here things r changed, transformed from one thing to another, when u r buy raw material, u have to pay tax on that.. when u buy some furnished thing from that raw material, its the different thing so u have to pay another tax... so its like energy can't be destroyed, it just transformed from one form to another....
aah... its difficult.. not for me that's the sure.... even Albert Einstein can not understand, how can I..... but then vice verse also not true....what Einstein understands, I can not even understand those things.... hmmmmmmmmm
