Went to Matheran last weekend, 10 friends.. me..rinku..kavan…urvi…mehul..rajesh…sujal…hitesh..alok..anita…. Matheran is 105 KM from Pune, towards Mumbai… tiniest hill station in Asia (as read on Matheran Entrance). No vehicles allowed in Matheran, so you have to walk lot so be healthy if you want to enjoy it :) ….
To reach Matheran, we catch Sinhgad exp at 6:05 am in the morning, and reached Karjat at 8:05 am. No express train stops at Neral so you have leave Express train at Karjat and then catch local train for Neral which takes 10 minutes to reach Neral.
From Neral, there is Toy train from Neral to Matheran. It takes 2 hours to complete 20 kms but should go one time, it is enjoyable journey as it gone through Jungle and Hill area and we really loved it. U can go by taxi also. It charges 50 Rs per person which is fixed as on Jan, 2009. It takes only 20-30 minutes.
We booked Toy train tickets two weeks ago as there are only 4 bogies and no extra passengers allowed in train. And journey was thoroughly enjoyable.
Reached Matheran around 11:15 am, then it takes hour to book the hotel. Courtesy to Kavan, we got good hotel in our budget, Hill Top Hotel, which is nearby market and old home like ambiance.
After 20-30 minutes rest, we took lunch in garden view restaurant in market which is so so…. We explored Matheran, from Alexander point to ram bag to little chowk point which is mistake as only 3 points, we did lot of walking for two and half hour and after reach little chowk point, and we realized that now we cannot reach sunset point as it takes 2 hour to reach there. Although we tried but reach one tree hill point in 25 minutes after that we gave up for sunset point. But then we went to lord point and lake, saw sunset point from there and it was great, really enjoyable walking in jungle.
At night, as usual Rinku and Urvi went for shopping :( ... It didn’t cost me much this time. Chappals are real cheap here and Rinku bought 5 (including one for me and dad). We took dinner at Prasanna which was again ok ok…. But we enjoyed very much as it was taken with friendsJ.
Next day…. As usual…. All were very tired becoz of lots of walking a day before… so we ready by 11 am.. Played badminton at hotel and came to market and mehul went for shopping, and I don’t like that… I already felt irritated becoz of people got ready by 11… :( ...Why they don’t do shopping at night only so we could start sightseeing at least 11, but that did not happen and its lunch time… We (me..rinky..kavan..urvi) went for lunch…at ketkar restaurant, which was quite good compare to previous hotel and service was too fast.. We finished lunch in 30 mins only and it was quite cheap too…
Then at 1 pm, we started site seeing which was too late…only visited monkey point.. n then.. mehul ..rajesh..sujal went to jungle…. We others r tired so just rest at monkey point.. Reached dasturi naka from which you can take the taxi to go down… I offered to go down by walking as we had 3 damn free hours before our train but u know gujju people… too lazy to do hard work (exception for business).…we only likes eating..Chatting... & travelling in bus/taxi/train… so we came by taxi and get bored at station… so 2nd day was total waste because of lack of planning n laziness….
But still it was nice outing n enjoyed….

you have tried to explain your Matheran trip. If you want to tell somebody about what all services provided there, how one can reach there ,,this all stuff should come in Present tense,, if you want to explain what you and your friend did there, that should come in past tense. I feel you have mixed up both. Just go through it once, you feel on your own.
Nice post. Several spots in Matheran offer panoramic and splendid views of the local surroundings, including the picturesque Charlotte Lake, which is a major draw for tourists. Check out best Matheran hotels for tourist accommodation.
